Concrete Canoe

Concrete Canoe, one of ASCE’s most challenging projects, involves teams following national guidelines yearly. It kicks off in the fall when students design the mix and hull shape, researching the most efficient and sustainable materials for lightweight concrete. Students also research the optimal balance of canoe characteristics such as speed and stability. This competition rigorously assesses students' material science, physics, and design expertise. Securing funding enables the team to source materials and conduct multiple iterations of testing to optimize the mix design.
